Congratulations to the pensbury Street Krew for winning two Volunteering awards from Evolution.
The group have been meeting NOW for some time since the 1st art workshops back in 2006 they have worked hard to collect the views of local residents and young people and put them into the deign of the park.
They were nominated by Lisa from Groundwork for the 2008 Volunteer awards at Evolution and they won two categories, Partnership working and the young peoples award, for all the hard work they have put in to the Park project.
"The Pensbury Street group have come together and worked really hard for the park, sharing their ideas, listening to others in the street and I am really pleased that their efforts where recognised with the award"
"The Pensbury Street residents should be really proud of them and their achievements and all the hard work they have put into designing the entrance feature, by doing this they are setting a good example as young people and giving the street a voice"

The kids that got involved are Emma, Clare, Andy, Shantelle, Toni, And the new girl who joined on 24/4/08 who is called Phoebe. Things are really progessing now. The play equipment is in and the safety surface has been applied. Unfortunately we're having to wait for the hand rails to be manufactured but as you can all appreciate these are having to be made specially for us and these things take time. We're also waiting for the seating and bins but then its only the finishing touches so watch this space. The ball games space looks great and I'm really pleased at the amount of space that will be available for the kids to play football and basketball in. We still need resident input for the finished article so please don't be afraid to get involved. As you can see we've managed so much already but new ideas are always welcome. The Art workshops are very well attended and there are some brilliant ideas coming out of them.

The Pensbury Street Art Group
We are a group of young people that meet up evey week, we got togther though an art workshop in March last year, which was part of the local park improvements. We wanted to get involved further and design an entrance feture that wouild fit in wiht the current project and have been working with Groundwork West Durham and Darlington on our ideas. In December 2007 we applied for some funding through the Dosh and were succesful. With this money we plan to hold a number of open workshops after school to produce flags and banners which will be used to create an entrance feture for Pensbury Street Park.
